My favorite thing about the cold, winter weather (but not too cold) is bundling up in plenty of warm layers and getting fresh air! The cold air is so refreshing after being cooped up indoors!
There’s so much to do in our local community, why not get out and explore? Here are 5 places to visit in Greater Grand Forks this Winter!
#1 – Lincoln Drive Park
Lincoln Drive Park has areas for sledding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Sleds, skis and snowshoes can be borrowed from the warming house. Check here for warming house hours.
The hotspot for sledding can be found just outside Lincoln Drive Park on the corner of 13th Avenue South and Belmont Road. There’s a small parking area on-site.
#2 – Turtle River State Park
Turtle River State Park is an awesome area to check out regardless of the season. In the winter there are areas for hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There’s also an awesome sledding area near the chalet/warming house. Paid park admission is required.
#3 – Outdoor Ice Rinks
Perfect for skating and ice hockey; the Grand Forks Park District has eleven outdoor ice rinks with warming houses. Check hours and locations, here. East Grand Forks has two additional outdoor rinks. More information, locations and hours can be found, here.
#4 – Greenway of Greater Grand Forks
The Greenway is one of my favorite things about Greater Grand Forks! In the winter, the Greenway is a great place for snowshoeing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Information for cross country skiing can be found, here.
Snowmobiles are allowed on designated trails only. Ordinances and snowmobile trail maps for Grand Forks and East Grand Forks can be found, here.
#5 – Area Lakes
If you’re okay with a little bit of a drive, there are a handful of area lakes that are great for ice fishing.
I’m going to give you the idea here and then let you do the research on where to go and how to ice fish. You couldn’t pay me $1,000,000 to step foot on a frozen lake – I don’t care if the ice is 30 feet thick, I won’t do it 🙂
Be safe, stay warm and have fun this winter!
