We’re facing an interesting time right now – with COVID-19 becoming a larger issue in our country and local area, it may be best to limit our time out in public spaces and around other people. This means more time at home, an overwhelming thought for some, especially for families with children. How are you supposed to stay entertained and busy?!?
I’ve put together a list of some ideas to make the most of your time at home without resorting to endless amounts of screen time, Netflix binges and mindless internet scrolling.
***And of course, if you do have to go out in public – please do so in good health, practice proper hand washing and follow hygiene guidelines (i.e. sneeze into arm/tissue). Stay healthy out there!

Learn Something New
Being cooped up indoors is the perfect time to learn. Some things you can learn: techy skills (coding, web design), languages, arts & crafts (knitting, sewing, painting, drawing), musical, photography, etc.
Get Up and Move
Youtube and Google are your friend on this one. Search for at home workouts or download mobile workout apps. Yoga is super easy to do at home and there are tons of great Youtube videos!
Take this time at home to do a deep clean and declutter of your space. A good place to start: go through closets and cupboards – get rid of junk/unused items and organize what’s staying.
Arts & Crafts
Get creative with what you have. Look for materials around the house – empty paper rolls, recyclables, old fabric. Pinterest has tons of fun ideas too.

Build a fort or set up a tent in your living room. Hang out for the day or pull out the sleeping bags and spend the night. Bonus points for s’mores!

Board games are a great way to pass time. If the board games get old, make up new games to play! Create the playing board, pieces, rules, etc.
Complete Procrastinated Projects
Most of us buy supplies with really good intentions of completing the project ASAP, but it doesn’t always happen like that. Whether it’s a house project, a craft project or a personal interest project – get it done!
Try a New Recipe
Cook a meal or bake a new recipe. Is there a dish that you’ve always wanted to make, but it sounded too time consuming or intense? Take this opportunity to test it out!
